It hadn’t dawned on her that Alice had sent the Volturi a wedding announcement until the day the package arrived. It was the last thing she’d expected as she sat at the table with everyone watching to see what she’d received. Opening the box to reveal a beautiful elaborate box, decorated in a rainbow of gemstones, ancient and precisely carved with gold and mother of pearl. Inside the box laid on top, a small envelope with the Volturi seal. As Bella opened the envelope and retrieved the small plain note card with black ink written from what she assumed Aro’s own hand, chills sent through her spine at the subtle threat it held. Just one line that stood out on the page, one line that made me fear the meaning behind its words.
‘I so look forward to seeing the new Mrs. Cullen in person.’~Aro
She quickly placed it back into it’s envelope and smiled a forced smile not to alert anyone, thankful her thoughts were protected from her Husband. As she looked into the box, Carlisle spoke as she lifted the necklace.
"I always wondered where the crown jewels disappeared to after John of England
pawned them in the thirteenth century," Carlisle said. "I suppose it doesn't surprise me that the Volturi have their share."
The necklace was simple and quite elegant – gold woven into a thick rope of a chain, like a smooth snake that would curl close around the throat. One jewel hung suspended from the rope; a white, clear diamond the size of a golf ball. She was not one to be flashy, so to wear it would be an incredible feat for her. Bella quickly returned the contents to the box, as Edward said through clenched teeth, “You’re not going alone.” After each of the family said there peace, her mind made up already, she was going…alone. “I’m a vampire, they have no reason to hurt me. It’s too risky for you to come and you know it.” He wasn’t seeing her reasoning. For the first time since becoming a vampire, this is what we argue about. Edward still had the mindset she was a breakable feeble human, unable to care for herself against them. She didn’t see the point. Once they seen that she was turned, what threat could they possibly have.
Later that night after they arrived back at the cottage, she slipped the box into a high shelf in the massive closet given by Alice. After discussing the topic, Edward seeming to agree to allow her to make the short trip to Italy. The tickets purchased a day after Renesmee turned three months old.
The latest topic up for debate was Brazil. Edward, Carlisle, Renesmee and Bella were planning a trip there for information regarding her growth and longevity. Carlisle believed our answers lie there due to the myths and legends of the locals. She’d learned of a few of them from her honeymoon and she shuddered at the thought of the possible bad news they could hear. Jacob was determined to come with them, he couldn’t bare being away from Renesmee. Bella understood his point, but he had obligations in La Push. That was the day Irina had seen them in the meadow, the day their lives changed…they just didn’t realize how badly.
