I stood amid the chaos that was once our well ordered home, surrounded by boxes. The movers would be here soon to ship our belongings to our new home in Rochester NY.
The house seemed lonely with everyone gone. The others were either house hunting, or in the process of moving themselves.
Closing my eyes, I could still smell their sweet scents - lavender, leather, honeysuckle, sunshine, leather, rising dough, chocolate, lilac....
I could still hear their laughter and see their faces, animated, telling tales, joking....
Opening my eyes again, I saw only empty space, filled with boxes - encapsulating our lives.
I will miss this house. There were so many happy memories here. The first time I met Bella, Bella and Edward's wedding, Nessie's birth, nights spent whiling away the time with Emmett, Rose, Alice and Jasper, Ryder coming into our lives, and nights spent in Carlisle's arms, among other times. I will not say goodbye. That's too final. Time will pass quickly - it always does. We will be together as a family once again. We will always be family, and together in our hearts if not in physical contact.
Until that time, there will be visits to plan. I looked forward eagerly to visiting Scotland. Perhaps we could all plan to meet there before too long.
We would definitely visit each of our children, wherever they settle. I returned to the task at hand, waiting for the movers, and running through our new cover story for the new people we would meet in Rochester NY. Idly, I wondered if our old house was still there, and knowing that we will eventually return to this house, which was my secret favorite, although it will be many years in the future. By that time, all the humans we were familiar with would be dead, with no one left to remember us, although we would remember them well.
Hearing the moving van exit from the highway long before they would be visible coming up the drive, I turned to the door to wait.
