While Edward despised the fact, he knew, that there was a reason behind his lack of contact with his family. Edward hated to hurt Esme in any way, but he shied away from calling them because it would only show him how they had moved on. It would be proof that they could exist without Bella, that she was no more than a page in their immortal life. She was much more than a page to him, she was the entire book. As cheesy and hopelessly romantic as that sounded, it was utterly true. Edward knew his family would miss Bella, but regardless of what Alice claimed, she was never as important to them as she would be to him.
Their complete happiness, the fact that each of them had their soul mate, an eternal partner, would only damper his quelling hope for a future with both of us. His story would never be as perfect. He wondered what they thought he was doing now. None, but Alice, probably knew what a mess he was in. Emmett most likely thought he was crazy, or psychotic, but that was nothing new. Jasper would agree with him, and would most likely be confused by his own despair over the loss of a human's presence. But what a special human.
Esme, would be worried no doubt her sadness would permeate the house, first to Carlisle until finally everyone would depressed. That explained nearly half the phone calls. They were probably death threats from Rosalie. He wondered, out of concerned curiosity, what they were doing in Ithaca. He had left barely after they had gotten settled into the house, what jobs would they be pretending to do? Would Emmett and Jasper be in school? Edward realized, partly because of the need to find out more about Victoria, partly because of curiosity, but mostly because of guilt. With that in mind, he pulled out his phone, and pressed send.
Now to begin with the inquisition....Staring with Alice.
