Sam had sensed the rest of the pack feeling a duty to retaliate against the Cullen's who yet again allowed a human life to perish for a hybrid vampire. No threats were made but he knew it was only a matter of time before one of them snapped, especially Paul. Another hybrid child in the area was causing everyone to question what they were allowing. Would they really be harmless to the reservation? Renesmee was protected under Jacob, he'd imprinted. But this Ryder kid...what if he hurt someone. From the information Carlisle had given them male hybrids were venomous. That meant they were a danger. Jared was out teaching some of the younger wolves to fight and he searched for Paul, finally finding him on the beach.
"Hey man, everything okay?"

Paul was sitting on the beach trying to regain his composer. Since he'd imprinted on Rachel he was doing pretty good about keeping his temper in check but with the addition of the hybrid Ryder to the Cullen household Paul was beginning to feel a little uneasy. He had since come to terms with Renesmee being that Jacob had imprinted on her. Though he kept his distance from all the Cullens he'd accepted them which didn't necessarily mean he liked them. Even more so now with Ryder. Paul had to question if it was still safe for the reservation.
Hearing Sam's voice come up behind him he glanced over his shoulder. "Why wouldn't it be?"

He held up his hands to show he came in peace, Paul was temperamental and although he'd since been able to control his anger sometimes he couldn't, especially when vampires were involved.
"Just sensing something isn't right with you. Is it Rachel?"
Lately Rachel had been busy with school and they hadn't seen one another like he wanted, Sam knew it was hard to be away from the one you loved. They were what kept them going, the women in their lives.

"Rachel's fine" he replied turning his attention back to the water. He tried to keep level headed blowing up on Sam wouldn't do him any good especially since he knew deep down Sam felt the same way. "You think we're making the right decision?" his question came without the turn of his head

Instantly he knew it was the vampire situation that had been dropped on their door step. Running a hand along the back of his neck he thought over Paul's question and knew deep down he had the same fears. What if they didn't do the right thing. What if this only led to war, a war that they could lose many in.
"Honestly Paul, I don't know. I wish I had the answers, but I don't. It's hard to tell really, it's just a...kid. But I also know the kind of monster it could potentially be."
He shook his head as his own words failed him.

"Exactly" this time Paul stood "We don't know what it is. Carlisle said himself that male hybrids are dangerous. We took a chance with Renessmee and the only reason she's still alive is because Jake imprinted. The new leech, Ryder we don't know what he's capable of. Sam we have a responsibility to our people NOT the Cullens"

"You're right. You're absolutely right, but we do not attack until I give the order, understood. They have grown and we know that going against them will only put Leah, Seth, Jacob, Quil and Embry on the Cullen's side. Are you willing to kill a fellow brother just to get to Ryder?" His voice was hard and stern trying to get Paul to understand his reasoning for waiting. If they retaliated, Jacob's pack would stand in front of them and he'd have to fight and possibly kill a fellow wolf, something he wasn't ready for.

"Like I said, our responsibility is to our people. We protect our people that's why we are what we are. The others chose which side they were on" as much as he hated it he knew no matter he said Sam's decisions were law whether he liked it or not. "All i'm saying is if it comes down to it will YOU be able to kill a fellow brother?" his eyes met Sam's as he stood his ground.

He looked straight into Paul's eyes and thought about his question, knowing he wanted an answer and 'I don't know' wouldn't be it. "IF it comes down to it...." He sighed and nodded once. "If it's us or them, it won't be us." Secretly hoping it never came to that, he knew that when it came down to brass tacks, if Ryder had to be destroyed, anyone who stood in his way would get hurt or killed. It was his birth right to protect La Push and all its inhabitants. No hybrid child would deter him.

Paul knew right then that Sam was sincere in his reply. Sam was alpha of the La Push pack he knew his responsibilities though Paul never had a problem reminding him. "That's all I needed to know." His stance relaxed a little as he threw his hands in his pockets and turned back to the water momentarily.

The silent exchange gave him the reassurance that he'd solved or settled some of Paul's worry. It weighed on them all and he knew it was an issue that would soon have to be confronted head on. He thought of Emily and how her safety meant everything to him. Same as Paul thought of Rachel and every other member on the Reservation.
"I'll see you in an hour for patrols."
He dipped his head and turned to jog back into the forest to find Jared and the others. A plan was forming in his head and he needed to look at it from every angle before striking or explaining it to the others.

Without a word Paul watched as Sam jogged off back into the forest. He still had a lot on his mind he had patrols in an hour and had to meet Rachel after that. Looking down at his watch he stretched before jogging off in the other direction.
