I pulled into the driveway of Billy's house and, moving as though I were human, slid out from the drivers seat of my car. Alice's vision had confounded us all, and Billy was the one she insisted we speak to in order to further understand just how to make Renesmee better.
Still moving with human speed, I knocked on the front door of Billy's house and waited for him to answer. I could hear him moving about in his wheelchair, could tell when he noticed who I was. A smile came to my face as I heard him reach for the doorknob, turn it and swing the door open.
"Mr. Black, thank you for agreeing to see me."

"Mr. Black, thank you for agreeing to see me."
<Billy nodded and rolled himself out of the way of the door frame to allow Carlisle to enter his home.>
"Carlisle, come in. I must say I was a bit shocked by your call. Is everything okay?"
<As he entered, Billy closed the door behind him and looked up at the vampire doctor and waited to hear what had him so frazzled. He'd never heard someone so...uneasy before. Jacob had said there had been a mishap but wouldn't say much about it, just stayed in his bedroom. Was it about Jacob, had something bad happened.>

I inclined my head as I stepped inside and headed towards a chair in the corner.
"Is it okay if I sit?"
At his nod, I lowered myself into the chair and placed my hands on my knees. I wasn't entirely sure how to do this or what to say, but it had to be done.
"Do you know of a Quileute woman that committed suicide in the forest by hanging herself from a tree?" No better way to get things started than by going straight to the point, I assumed. I watched his face for any tiny hint that he knew of the story I mentioned, and waited for his response.

<His eyes widened when he mentioned the old legend of their tribe, one that had been told to the elders but buried within their minds. No need for the younger generation to know of the horrors that had occurred on their land. He shifted in his seat and just gave a small nod, looking around before motioning his head to the kitchen area. Farther away from Jacob's bedroom he swallowed and began...>
"In the early 1900's, a young Quileute woman met a young Quileute man, and fell deeply in love. They planned to be together until their death, then follow one another to the afterlife. But fate... had other plans...."

She couldn't contain her excitement. Nootau was meeting her in just minutes and they were going to be married, under the moonlight by the river! She would soon be his wife and they could live their life together. Just a matter of time.
Her hands smoothed down her brown skirt before brushing a runaway strand of hair back behind her ears, a nervous smile playing at her lips. She could hear footsteps softly hitting the ground, leaves scattering; in her heart she knew it was him, the one that set her soul on fire. Nootau.
"You came," she said quietly as she stepped forward to meet him, her hand outreached. They were meeting then walking to the river together where they would be wed.

Nootau was thrilled to have Aponi as his wife, his own butterfly. She was a spark in his eye, the sun at night and the moon in the day. They were to be wed today, and spend the rest of forever together. Aponi's little sister, Huyana was helping to organize things and needed to meet with her to give her the rings he'd made out of elephant tusk. Stopping dead in his tracks when she turned around and the setting sun hit her dark ebony hair, his mouth went dry. "No..." He fell to his knees and placed his head in his hands. The old "legend" was no longer just a legend. It had happened to him just like it had happened to his great grandfather chief of their tribe. He'd imprinted. Huyana rushed to him and bent down, placing a gentle hand on his shoulder. He looked up at her with tears staining his face and she realized what had happened, she felt it too...the pull...the connection. "I need you to have everyone leave...tell them I'm sick. I have to talk to Aponi." She nodded and left him, going to speak with their family and friends. He had to tell the woman he loved more than anything that he imprinted on her little sister. That he was not her soul mate but her sisters. She smiled brightly when he approached their meeting spot, reaching for him. He stopped just out of her reach and looked down, trying to find the words. "I imprinted Aponi..."

I nodded my head and continued to watch him. I had heard small tales, tidbits of the story, but I never knew what exactly had happened to the couple.
"What happened then?" I could tell it hurt him to tell the story, that he was worried. "I ask because Renesmee has been uttering the name 'Aponi' under her breath, crying out as though she were being punished for 'Not finishing it'."
My eyes met Billy's and I inclined my head, knowing what he was about to ask. "Renesmee is responsible for Jacob being ill. Isabella and Edward found them in the woods, by a huge tree... She was draining him."

<He looked at Carlisle hearing him interject his question of what happened next. Then he revealed Renesmee having the dreams....it couldn't be could it? His eyes closed tightly and he shook his head. Opening his eyes, deep down he knew she might have been responsible.>
"The way the legend goes....she didn't take the news well. Neither of them did. Aponi was taught the Quilete traditional witch doctor routines and she thought she could "cure" him of imprinting...only it didn't work. Later that night....."

Her hand slowly lowered as his words registered, a frown replacing her smile. Imprinted... that was just a myth! Shaking her head, she reached out for him again.
"To me, right?" Her hand was still outstretched for him as she waited. "Nootau, our wedding. We're going to be late." Maybe if she ignored it, maybe if she wished it to be... she would be the one he imprinted to. But she could tell by the look in his eyes that she was wrong.
It was true what they said about heartbreak; she felt her heart shatter into a million tiny pieces as she fell to her knees in front of him. She grasped at his clothing as tears fell down her cheeks. "Please.... Who is it?"

She looked so beautiful waiting for him, beaming at their nuptials that were going to bind them forever. "We're going to be late!" She said with a smile. He hung his head and fought himself, knowing she'd have to know eventually and she had a right to know. Hearing her words about their wedding, the tears flowed freely down his face. He never spoke. She fell to her knees, grasping at his clothing and pleading to know who. "Huyana..." He knelt down before her and shook his head. "You have to believe me, butterfly...I never wanted this to happen...the pull towards her, the love...it just is."

"You....No." She shook her head, unbelieving. There was no way that he had imprinted to her sister, not her baby sister! Tears fell down her cheeks and she jerked away from him. They said that imprinting wasn't a choice, that it just happened. But she didn't believe it. "You chose her.... over me. You never loved me, not even a little, did you?" They had planned this wedding for MONTHS! She had spent every last bit of money she had to make sure her dress was perfect, had brushed her hair for hours so that it lay right, falling down her shoulders. "I gave you EVERYTHING!" She stood and stared at him before turning on her heel and taking off. "I wish I had never met you." HOURS LATER She stood at the tree in the middle of the forest, the rope hanging mere inches above the stump she had found. This tree had so many meanings for them, so many memories. It was here that she had given him her heart, her soul, her innocence. "WHY?!" she cried, angry tears streaming down her face as she stepped onto the stump and put the rope around her neck. She didn't speak, just stood there staring at the tree. Nootau had carved their name into it ages ago, with a heart between to signify their unity, that they would forever be as one. "I curse you. Nothing but pain, for eternity. May you never forget what you have done to me. My blood, is on your hands." Her eyes closed as she let out another heart wrenching scream and stepped off of the stump. It took only seconds for the life to slip from her, the light in her eyes dimming as her hair slipped down her back. Even as she died, her soul screamed out - Nootau had broken her heart, her spirit, and inadvertently taken her life.-

The way they parted ways killed him inside. His father congratulated him on the news of him imprinting and he just shook his head and left the house. She had to still be at their spot, he couldn't leave it like that...even if he had to take her and run away with her. But he could not shake the love and connection he felt towards Huyana. Damn this curse for taking your free will, why couldn't she be the one for him? Why have all this time wasted in loving one person only to be thrown into this.
As he approached the tree, the sun now set and the moon the only light around for miles, he could see something swaying. Taking off into a run, he grabbed her lifeless body and began to sob hard.
"NOOOO Aponi, no no no no, oh butterfly. NO. Why?? Oh God why?!?"
Removing her body from the noose, he fell to the ground and cradled her in his arms, his tears falling onto her face.

As soon as Billy finished telling me of what happened with Aponi and Nootau, I nodded in realization. Renesmee and been muttering about not appeasing Aponi, not doing her job, and he now understood why Alice insisted that they not put the bracelet back on her.
"Thank you, Billy. For all of your information. But I must go." I stood from my seat and held out a hand to him, offering a soft smile as I did so. "Give my best to Jacob and please, don't hesitate to call if I am needed. Oh," I said as I reached into my pocket and pulled out 6 capped needles filled with clear liquid, handing them over before taking another step back. "I have more medication for him, in case he is in pain or needs more rest. Since he burns through the medication so quickly, I brought extra. He shouldn't need it, but just in case."
I nodded again and turned around, heading for the door. I needed to get back to my family, inform them of what I knew, and see if I could get my Pooh Bear back to normal.
