-she had been with Nahuel since before Christmas and had enjoyed herself more than she had imagined; when she saw him, she blushed like she did when she looked at Jake, when he gently touched her hand her heart got butterflies. He was quickly becoming her best friend, thoughts of returning home leaving her mind as they walked through the forest.-
Nahuel? Do you ever regret what you are? I mean, do you ever wonder if you would be better off just as a human? Or just a vampire? Instead of being both? -she swung her legs from the branch where she sat high in the tree, staring across the treetops.-

The past week had been spent talking and showing Nessie around where he grew up. She loved the sights and continued to say it was amazing there. The rain forest was her favorite place, running and jumping from limb to limb. She made him laugh at her antics. Many times he questioned if he should call her parents, but as her friend he had to respect her wishes. But he couldn't help wondering why she chose him, he convinced himself it was because he was the only other hybrid she knew.
Her question made him come back from his thoughts. <Regret what I am?> He chuckled. <For over a hundred years I went through many of the same emotions you are now. Well...most of them anyway.> He looked out over the canopy of trees as he leaned against the trunk of the tree. They were so high you could see over everything. <I sometimes wonder if I'd be better off as just one. But the way I see it now, I'm just a super human. I can drink blood, but don't need it to live. So I'm human with all the advantages of a vampire. Seems like the best of both worlds doesn't it?> He asked when he turned to meet her eyes.

-she shrugged her shoulders and continued to kick her feet- I like what I am, though I don't really understand it that much. I wonder what it'd be like to be normal though. -she looked at him and grinned as he leaned against the trunk of the tree. He was without a doubt the second most gorgeous man she had ever seen; very, very close to how gorgeous Jake was, but still not quite.-
I guess it is the best of both worlds, though. -upon hearing him mention that he didn't survive on blood, she grimaced- Human food doesn't hold much appeal to me though. I prefer blood, but they make me eat too. Even when I don't want to. -she had started referring to her family as 'they', trying to make herself seem more independent, even though deep down she missed them terribly.- I wonder if they even realize I'm gone. -shrugged her shoulders and leaped gracefully from the tree-

He listened to her talk about her family again, only referring to them as they. Not once had she spoke of the man she loved. <Human food is good. You should try some of the delicacies over here. Blood is...Well I rather not hurt humans, and animals alike.> He watched her jump down ever so graceful and followed. Landing on the balls of his feet with a soft thud to the earth, he took her hand in his and smiled. <Let's go this way, you haven't seen one of my favorite places.> With that he began to run towards his favorite tranquil place to think and be alone. In times he just didn't know where to turn, this was it. Cutting corners and ducking as he traveled through a small tunnel to emerge onto a hidden waterfall. The bluest waters, the greenest vegetation. <Amazing isn't it?>

-her mouth was agape as she looked around, then she started to grin- Oh wow. This is gorgeous! -she looked at him then let go of his hand, moving swiftly to where the waterfall was and standing on the edge, arms outstretched, head tilted upwards and eyes closed- This is perfect. My parents have a place like this that they like to go. -she inhaled deeply and let out a sigh-
-she could hear everything here; the crickets, the water rushing down the waterfall, birds, animals running through the forest. It was the most amazing thing she had ever seen. Opening her eyes, she turned to Nahuel who now stood beside her and was staring at her intently- I've never had human blood. It's frowned upon at the house. -she turned back to look out from the top of the waterfall- And I don't kill unless I have to. Sometimes I have too. -she frowned- I don't like it when I have too.

He took a seat on one of the stones in the stream and placed his feet in the water as the current washed over them. <I've had human blood....the first person I killed was my mother. It was her blood I tasted. My aunt told me it wasn't my fault but how can you not blame yourself?> He stared into the blue stream and sighed.
After a few moments he turned to look at her. <Who have you killed? Human wise.>

-she frowned- I... I haven't killed a human. I haven't ever tasted human blood. I've... I've only ever killed animals, and then it was only when I was learning to feed or if I got overzealous. -she looked to him- How many have you killed, Nahuel?
-the thought of him killing someone seemed so absurd. He looked so... nice. A shiver went down her spine and she moved out of the water to sit against a tree. She looked at him from where she sat, patted the ground beside her and smiled-

He understood now what she meant, having to kill animals. Watching her movements admiring her grace and beauty as she sat against a tree. He cupped his hand and brought the water to his mouth. She pat the ground and smiled; he took that cue to go sit by her which he did.
<How many humans have I killed? Well, I'm about one hundred and fifty years old and I think I can count them on both of my hands. Most of it was an accident when I couldn't control my hunger....or my anger.> He shook his head at the dark memories of his past that he didn't want to get into. Placing his arm around her shoulders he looked up into the sky and smiled. This was turning out to be a wonderful visit, and he wasn't complaining.
