BEEP! BEEP! BEEP!....The sound of the alarm clock seemed louder than usual. I wanted to wake up extra early to get my Christmas shopping done since the holidays were upon us. Another year had come and gone and I was determined to make the best out of it. No, I didn’t have that ‘special someone’ but I knew I could focus on the people who were special to me, like the ones who helped me through the heartache, the transition to becoming "one of the guys," and especially through the death of my dad, Harry Clearwater.
I sat up in my bed, stretched my arms out as far as they could reach and slung my blankets off as I bounced out of bed with such energy. I quickly raced to the bathroom to get ready. After I was finished, I rushed through the house humming Christmas carols with a smile on my face. It had been a long time since I have felt this happy.
On my way through the kitchen, Seth was standing at the counter with the cereal box turned up as he was chugging it down his throat. He paused for a second and dropped the box in the floor with colored cereal balls bouncing as they hit. His facial expression was of shock, jaw to the floor in awe. I heard him say, “Okay, Where’s my sister and what have you done with her?” As I walked by him with a smirk, I grabbed and apple on the table, popped it off my wrist to him and winked as I walked out the door.
After finishing my Christmas shopping as I was about to leave La Push mall, I ran into Billy Black, Jacob's dad. We chatted for few minutes about gifts he wanted to get Jacob for Christmas. I guess he wanted to get my opinion to see if Jacob would like what he had gotten him. He then asked if I wanted to join them for Christmas Eve dinner. I couldn't turn down his offer, after all he is like my dad now since my real dad had passed. Thinking about dad brought back the memories we had during Christmas. Going to find the perfect tree, the trimmings, the dinners, singing Christmas carols, and most importantly the love we all had for one another. -smiling as I was thinking of dad while Billy was talking- I thought to myself, that's What Christmas is for, Love! I knew in my heart that I needed to share the love that my daddy taught Seth and I growing up, but to share it with everyone, everyday. As I focused back on Billy as he was speaking, he asked if I wanted to shop with him, I nodded eventhough I had already finished my list of presents, so I grabbed the handles on his wheel chair as we headed off to another store.
