*she and Carlisle had gone out into the forest and cut down a tree, carrying it back to the house. They had prepared it and set it in the tree stand, filling it with water. She had told Carlisle that they needed to let it sit for a day or to, so that it could re-hydrate. The lonely empty tree had sat in the front of the window for a couple days, and had spread its branches rather nicely. Pulling the boxes of decorations over, she pulled out the lights and checked each strand, then wrapped them around the tree. After making sure the lights were perfect, she began adding the balls and baubles they had collected over the years. She pulled them out, and layered them on the tree, feeling her melancholy coming back with each one she added, because the deeper she dug into the box, the older and more priceless the decorations were, and the ones that he had bought her when he first turned her, right after the death of her baby, and her subsequent death and rebirth.
She tried to get past the feelings she was having, but at the moment, she wished she could just sit down and cry, or scream, throw things, just get it out, but she couldn't. She had to be strong for husband and the kids. So she continued to hang the decorations, but the longing continued deep inside her. After the holidays, she and Carlisle would be taking a trip to Denali, to spend some time with the Denali clan, and hopefully that would help take her mind off her problems and help her deal with all these feelings she was having.
Standing back, she looked at the tree, and smiled softly, thinking how beautiful it looked ablaze with lights and the baubles dangling from each limb, the lights reflecting off them. Carrying all the boxes back to storage, she decorated the mantle on the fireplace and smiled as she admired her handy work. She hoped Carlisle and the children liked what she had done, she did it for all of them*
