*Staring absently around my study losing all interest in the Douglas Adams book, So Long and Thanks For All the Fish. Arthur Dent isn't holding my attention like he usually does. Hearing all the hustling and bustling and the house is full of people to the rafters and I mean it since all the friends and family has descended for the holidays. Most of them come out of respect, while most of them are here to meet the newest Cullen Ryder. I am hiding in my study for the few moments to gather the words I want to say to moment this occasion. I am a well read person, who can recall almost everything I have ever came across and pursued. I cannot seem to articulate what I am feeling at this time.
Being over 600 years old, I have met many people and have changed many lives either for good or no so good. I recall a sermon my Father used to tell about tolerance. He always quoted Matthew 7:24-- "Stop judging by mere appearances, and make a right judgment." These were the words of Jesus, a man who was a teacher and a prophet. He doesn't condemn the person he condemns the critical and judgmental spirit. Shaking my head wondering why that sermon and my father came to mind. He wasn't tolerant of others that differed from himself. He was a self styled vampire slayer and tried to make me over into himself. It cost me my mortality. I have felt forsaken by god and lacked a soul. Bella bought the point home, when you cling to your humanity you still own your soul. She is the perfect foil for my son Edward and compliments our family well. She has brought much into our lives. One our beautiful granddaughter Renesmee, Jacob our friend and protector. I thank the providence that put Bella in our path.
Picking up the pen and writing down a few words that would do the gathering well.
-We tend to forget that happiness doesn't come as a result of getting something we don't have, but rather of recognizing and appreciating what we do have. said by Frederick Keonig.
-What we do for ourselves dies with us. What we do for others and the world remains and is immortal. said by Albert Pine.
Jotting down the names and why I am thankful for them.
Esme- My loving and beautiful wife, which hasn't anything to do with her outter beauty, she shines like a pearl because she has a pure heart and a genuine love for others. She is the main reason I am here today. She is my heart, soul and universe.
Edward- My oldest child and closest friend. He is the most level headed of my children, without him in my life I would have been a cold unfeeling collector of things. I thank the world for him.
Rosalie- My brainy beautiful daughter who has a touch for healing as well, she pursued a career in the medical profession and this training brought her one of her hearts desires, Ryder her beloved child.
Emmett- My son who Rosalie found carrying him to me to heal though I could not do this I changed him into one of us and he stole my daughters heart which he cares for like a priceless jewel.
Alice- My fashion savvy daughter who always knows the right thing to say, do and how to plan things down to the minute details. Without you in our lives we would have stumbled along blind to the world and fashion. I digress I love you Alice, you are my brilliant jewel.
Jasper- My son who captivated Alice, who is my brilliant soldier, the one I can turn to when I need strategic planning. Hell of a fighter I must say that as well. He has taught my Alice how to be a ninja.
Renesmee- My granddaughter who I thought I would never have. You are my light in a cloudy world. I cherish you, and hope your future is bright and you get what you want out of this world.
Bella- My daughter by marriage, but always the daughter of my heart. You are one of the best parts of being a Cullen. You shine among us and you have yet worked into your potential. I am constantly amazed by you.
Each one of you own a huge part of me. I love you more than life itself. If I were to lose one of you I would be devastated, life would pale and my existence would be robotic from that moment on. I would gladly end myself in your place if it came to that. You are my reason to be. I love all of you and thank providence daily for each and everyone of you.
Dropping the pen on the paper, sighing standing up stretching more out of habit than from sitting too long. Folding the paper sticking it in my pocket walking out to join my friends and family.*
