Bella sat on the small pier that Edward and Emmett had build last month, letting her feet dangle in the water of the small lake behind their cottage. The temperature didn't affect her at all, be it hot or cold. Unless it was extreme cold or heat, but none of which was uncomfortable. Enjoying the break from college while the holidays were right around the corner. The sunlight hitting her exposed skin as it shone like diamonds. For once in her life she felt beautiful. Still very humble about how "perfect" she looked when Edward would tell her daily how much she was now dazzling him. All she could ever do was look down and wonder how someone so amazing had came into her life and how she ended up being able to keep him forever.
Thanksgiving was coming up. The last Thanksgiving as a human, she spent in a blur, blank and empty. Edward had told her that she wasn't good for him and she fully believed every word. Seeing him leave and unable to make him stay, she felt broken inside. A piece of her heart gone forever. She'd never experienced such heartache. The pain was intense and no one understood. Young love, they said. You'll get over it, it's just puppy love. Little did they all realize, she loved him eternally and without him, she would cease to exist. But something pulled her from that dark place, her best friend Jake. She was thankful for having someone always there to make her fill in that missing hole. But when his name was mentioned, it made her whole body break again. She wanted to love Jacob. Love him like he loved her, give him what he needed, but she couldn't. Her heart was given away and Edward had never given it back. The day she saved his life, she was so grateful for Alice and her great driving skills. Thankful for her will and love to run and not stop until she reached him. When he said he loved her and had never stopped, she was thankful for his arms around her or she'd collapse. Her heart was complete again.
When he asked her to be his wife, at first she was skeptic only because of her fear of matrimony and the examples she had in her life weren't exactly stable. Fearing she'd end up just another teenage statistic. Not once did she fear divorce, more or less feared the talk of the town and "marrying too young" But this was his condition and she wanted him forever. She wanted him in many ways before taking that step towards immortality. It was at that moment she was thankful for the love he gave her, to hold her together as she became his wife, never ever regretting that decision.
Feeling the nudge in her belly only reaffirmed that she was keeping their child no matter what. It could not possibly be anything evil if it were Edward's child. It was at that moment she was forever thankful for Rosalie. They'd never been on the same page because of Bella's decision to want the life she didn't want for herself. Her blatant disregard for her human side annoyed Rose because of what she was giving up. She was thankful for never letting her guard down and giving in to the urgency of his request fearing loss of her life. She would gladly give her life up for her child. The motherly bond she felt with her little nudge was indescribable and no one would understand that. Even the fear of the unknown did not give her fear, it only gave her hope that she would prove them wrong. And she did. Bella was thankful Edward's love prevailed and did not give up on her. His will to save her life and not let go was what had saved her life, giving her the gift of immortality.
So many things as she thought about them she was thankful for. So many people in her life to be thankful for. Her father, Sue for opening his heart to love again. Her mother and Phil. Carlisle and Esme for their timeless love. Rosalie and Emmett for always giving her a laugh and standing by her when her decisions became crazy. Alice for being her best friend, and Jasper for always knowing how to calm her when things became intense. Her husband, Edward for so many things. His love showed her what life really was. She was born to be a vampire. But one of her most precious little miracles was her daughter, her little nudger Renesmee. She smiled and looked up at the sun setting in the sky as she remembered the first day of her waking up a vampire. Getting to meet her daughter for the first time. She was only out for two days but her daughter looked like a three month old. When she reached up and touched her cheek showing her images of her memory. She looked horrible as if she were on deaths door. Renesmee remembered her holding her, she remembered how much she loved her. Her breath caught in her throat as she choked up at the memories.
So many people in her life now that her family had expanded as her best friend Jacob imprinted on her daughter. Sure, she wasn't thrilled at first, but he was a part of her family and always would be. With him, she knew her daughter would forever be safe and protected. Watching Renesmee grow into a beautiful young woman as she is today was all she could ever hope for and thankful that she above all else was happy and in love. Her life was perfect and she couldn't ask for more or better. For all of these things, she was thankful. So very very thankful.
No matter how old she got, she'd always be her little butterfly. But now, she had to fly away as she became a woman. Seeing a butterfly fly past her as she smiled and knew it was a sign that everything would be okay.
