*I had just finished changing Ry's diaper and putting him into one of the new outfits that we had brought him yesterday. Putting him up on my shoulder, I went to find the rest of my family.
Once downstairs, I noticed that all the noise seemed to be coming from the kitchen. Vampires gathered in the kitchen? "What is your crazy family up to Tennessee?" He just smiled. Such a happy baby.
Walking into the kitchen, I found Em, Alice, Jasper and Esme all sitting round our big wooded table.
"Family meeting?" I asked as Em pulled out a chair for me. Taking the seat I handed Tenn over to his daddy.
"So what is going on?" I tried to study the faces of my family members. Everyone seemed to be happy. I always worried when the family gathered cause most of the time it was bad news. My brother is dating a human, said human is being hunted, said human is being hunted again, brother married said human and knocked her up and the latest emergency was the Volturi wanted to kill said human along with the rest of the family.
But there seemed to be a more peaceful, happy vibe in the room.
"We are talking about Thanksgiving of course" my sister Alice chimed in. I laughed. The first time we ever used this kitchen was when Edward brought Bella home to meet us for the first time, even then the food went to waste because Bella ate before coming over.
"I don't see why we have a Thanksgiving dinner, we don't eat. Or am I the only one that remembers that little fact?" I looked over a my husband who was making crazy faces at his son. I laughed.
"The food, sister dear, is for our human family members. The rest of the party activities the whole family can enjoy" Alice leaned in closer to me "Don't worry Rosalie, you have a wonderful time" she looked over at Em and the baby.
It was at this point in the conversation that I finally understood what Thanksgiving was all about. It is not the food, it is about the family. It was about being all together in one place and not because you were fighting for your life but because you are celebrating each other and being together.
For many years I felt as if I didn't have anything to be thankful for. For many years I felt robbed of happiness or any hope of being happy. Then Em came into my life and I was forever changed but was I truly "thankful"? No I was so selfish that I let my jealousy of those that were able to bare children, ruin my happiness. I was so selfish that I didn't see what I was taking from my husband. I was so wrapped up in my own personal pain, that I didn't truly let my Em enjoy life to the fullest.
I looked over towards the large windows that covered the side of the house. The sun was pouring in and the rays were hitting Em. He was shinning like pure diamonds. ABSOLUTELY breathtaking.
In that monument, I realized that this year Thanksgiving had new meaning. This year the old Rosalie was gone and the girl that was left would be more thankful and kind because she finally new what life was all about.....family. Not just Emmett and Ryder but my whole family because without each and everyone of them, my life would not be what it is today.
"Rose? Earth to Rose, are you there?" I snapped out of my thoughts and looked over at Jasper. "Yes, I am here" I smiled. "For the first time....I...am ...truly here" Jasper smiled as Alice patted my hand. The conversation went back to party planning and for once I was really happy to be involved*
