*Ryder was napping and I was reading in the rocker that Emmett had moved from downstairs to our bedroom. It was so peaceful just sitting in here listening to his tiny little snores.
We all had wonder how fast Ryder would grow and age. Nessa had done it so quickly but seeing she was the only hybrid that we had watched age from birth, we were still clueless when it came to other. Would he grow like her, fast? Or since he was a male, would his growth be faster then her or maybe a little slower. We did know that male hybrids were venomous but as far as anything else, it was a wait and see sort of thing. So far it looked like he was growing slower then Nessa. He was a week old and still looked like a newborn.
As far as him biting, we kept him away from all humans, so far Jake had not held him. Nessie did and he did fine. No attempts to bite her but was that because she was only half human?
The other curiosity was, what would his gift be or would he even had a gift? Not all vampires are blessed or cursed with a power. Em, my father and mother nor myself have powers so Ryder chances of having one was a toss up.
I stole a peek of him as he slept. Perfect as always. I sat back in the rocker, closing the book and laying it in my lap. Closing my eyes, I started to rock. Would I want him to have a power? Maybe, if it was something that would help protect him. I always thought that powers were a curse at times. Take Edwards, he could read minds. Would you want to know what someone was thinking at all times? There would be no surprises and the noise in your head would have to be awful. Oh Alice, her ability to see the future, on more then one occasion she knew someone was going to die and there was nothing she could do about it. That had to be heartbreaking. So I guess if Ryder does have a power, I would hope that it was one that would help protect him or his love ones. If not, then I would be more then happy to die protecting him myself.
The minutes passed by and my thoughts continued to run through my mind. All the things that had happened up to this point and all the things my future now held. All the possibilities for my family.
I guess I was so lost in my own thoughts, that I didn't hear the tiny noise coming from the other side of the room until it got a little louder. I opened my eyes and sat up. What was that? Walking over to the bassinet that Bella got for Ryder, I peered inside. Ryder was awake but laying silent and content. I heard the noise again, "What is that son?" I turned toward the noise. A snake, a rattlesnake? I took a deep breath in.....nothing. There was only vampires in the house, I couldn't even smell Nessie or Jake.
The rattling came and went as I walked around the room, checking under the bed, looking in the closet. I even pulled down the covers on my bed. Nothing. There it was again, this time louder. Looking around the room it sounded as if it was.....I followed the sound out of the bedroom and down the short hallway towards the stairs that lead down to the living room. As I approached the stairs, I saw the hall table. Laying on the table was the tiny blue and white rattle that Carlisle had given Ryder. The same rattle that I knew had been left downstairs in the living room. How did it get up here? I walked over to the landing and peered over. No one downstairs. I listened, it sounded as if most of my family was in the media room watching T.V. Turning, I walked back to the table. Who would have brought this up and just laid it here and not took it to the bedroom. I went to pick the rattle up and before I could, it started to shake and lift up off the table. It floated about 2 inches off the table, rattling louder before floating down and coming to a rest back on the table. What the hell? I picked the small toy up and started towards my room, back to where the baby was. He was still laying in the bed, cooing and looking around. "Ryder I think mommy is losing her mind"
I bent down to pick him up, sitting on the side of the bed. I held him under his arms and kissed him little nose.
"You wouldn't mind a crazy mom would you?" I teased him, while he smiled back at me. "It smells like someone needs a clean diaper" Laughing, I laid him down on the bed "What are we going to do today, huh son? Do you want to go find daddy as soon as I get you clean?" I reached over to the bedside table to grab a clean diaper and that is when I heard the sound again, turning back towards Ryder I saw that he now had the rattle in his hand, playing with it. "You sly little man. You are gifted huh?" I just smile and continued to clean him up. "You just wait till I tell your dad"
