New beginnings, three years later.

*I was now in my 3rd year of med school and things were going smooth. I actually started rotation at the local teaching hospital and I really enjoy rounds. Em was still taking classes and for the first time in years Yale had a wonderful football team. Emmett joked that it was so hard for him to hold back when playing. Got to love my monkey man. We were also enjoying this time alone, just the two of us. Yes, we went home, to Forks as often as we could to see the family and most of all Nessie. She was growing into such a beautiful young woman. I am still not so sure about this "relationship" she has with Jacob. I can tell that he truly does care about her but it was hard for me to get pass the whole wolf thing.
Today was my 6th days straight doing rounds at Memorial and everyone was commenting on how well I was handling the long nights with no sleep. While everyone else was living off tons of coffee, I was just fine. Perk of being a vampire was we didn't need sleep.
I was just coming out of a patient's room, checking the settings on his ventilator when I ran head on into a blonde nurse knocking her to the ground.
"Oh, I am so sorry. I wasn't looking where I was going. Are you ok?" I asked as I offered her my hand.*

<I was checking the chart for room 102 when I felt like I'd ran smack into a wall. Blinking to clear my vision as I looked up at a blonde nurse in pink scrubs. She was so beautiful, flawless. My mouth dropped at the sight of her.>

I...I...No, I was looking down, sorry I'm clumsy like that.

<I extended my hand to accept her help up and my breath shuddered at how ice cold her hand was.>

I know they keep hospitals cold, but...you're freezing. Are you okay?

<I asked as I stood and smiled.> By the way, I'm Zoe...Zoe DeBroux. Just transferred from the community school, figured I'd give university a try.

*Taking my hands, I rubbed them together pretending to warm them up.
"Yeah, sorry about that. I tend to stay a little cold and it doesn't help that it is as cold as a meat locker in here" I gave her a smile. "Names Rosalie Hale, Rose if you like" I shook her hand. "I'm a 3rd year medical student, how about you? You work here or studying to be...." I looked at her name tag but it didn't say. "Oh by the way, I love your accent, where are you originally? I know that is not a northern accent so I am guessing somewhere down south?"

<I nodded> Oh, that's just great! Nice to meet you Rosalie. I'm an RN. Working here to pay my way through college, working towards a nursing degree for education. To be an educator in Nursing field. I just love what I do.

<I let out a laugh> I get that AWL the time honey...I'm from New Orleans, Lew-eez-i-ana. Heard of it?

*I couldn't help but smile, she was very likable and she reminded me of my sister Alice, sweet and bubbly.
"Yes, I have been to New Orleans a few times. My husband is a big sports nut and he just loves the Staints" We laughed. "I am on my way to the doctors lounge if your not busy we can chat there" She said that she was just getting ready to go on break and would love to chat. I waited while she placed the chart back on the rack in the nurses station. Once inside the doctor's lounge, I grabbed my backpack and pulled out my A&P book. Taking a seat on the couch, I opened the book. "So, you are wanting to be a nursing instructor? Nice, I don't know if I could teach at all" I turned the page of my book "I would rather learn then teach" I give her a small smile. It was nice chatting with another female. As much as I loved Em, there was only so much football talk I could take before going insane.
"So, how about you. Are you married?" I didn't see a ring but now a days that didn't mean anything.*

<I nodded and smiled> Well, sure. Was heading there now! See you there. <Returning back to the nurses station to brief the nurse taking my patients for my break, then heading to the lounge. I saw Rosalie sitting on the couch and grabbed a cup of coffee making my way over next to her taking a seat.>

Yeah, it's not for every one. Hell, I almost flunked out first semester. But I blame my asshole boyfriend for that. Sorry...ex-boyfriend. <rolls eyes> Stubborn men. But it's what's made me stronger. Finally one day after getting beat the hell up I realized it was time to stand up for myself..so I did. I introduced him to frying and pan. <Smiling big> But, enough about my sad little story.

<Taking a sip of my coffee I continued> My dad was a surgeon in New Orleans. He was one of the best at Tulane. He was also stubborn. I lost him when refused to evacuate for Katrina. Died of a heart attack...and he was a heart surgeon. Funny how life throws things at you right? My mom, she passed when I was seven. So now its just little ole' me. No brothers or sisters...How about you?

*I listened to her tell me her story and it made me realize once more how lucky I was to have Emmett and my family.
"I'm real sorry to hear about your parents. It must be hard being on your own." I flipped another page in my book, not really reading, just going through the motion. "Well, I'm married to the most wonderful man ever. His name is Emmett. He plays on Yale's football team and I think he is going to be a professional student" Laughing at how true that statement was. Seeing that we have been going to school so many years that I have lost count. "I am from out West, Washington State" Pausing to think...."umm I have a sister, two brothers and a sister-n-law" I closed the book and placed it back in my bag. "Oh and the best niece anyone could ever ask for. So beautiful and smart" I smiled and got my cell phone out. Flipping through the pictures and pulled up one from our last visit home "Isn't she the prettiest young woman you have ever seen" I handed her my phone*

<I took the phone and looked at the picture> SHE is your niece? Wow, she looks like she's your age. Good genes I guess. <I laughed and handed her back the phone.> She so beautiful too, I'm certainly jealous. <Laughing again as I stand> Well, I better head on back in to work before Mary-Ann has a fit. See you around?

<I walked off feeling tons better to have a friend, sorta. She was so sweet and nice. And Married...but young. The photo of her niece, she was just so perfect and flawless. What a nice family she must have. Maybe we could be friends?>
