Bella's eyes flustered open as she smiled up at his glistening face. "I thought vampires didn't sleep?" She grinned at him, stretching her body. "You weren't asleep....having your eyes closed as you listened to the sound of the water does not equal sleeping." He corrected. Propping herself up on her elbows as she smiled at him. "How long was I out?" She asked playfully. "Oh...a long time...almost 5 minutes." He said as he inched closer to kiss her lips. A full year had passed since she'd become a vampire. Since their lives seemed to actually start. They lay tangled in each others arms, in the back yard of their cottage as the sun began to peek through the morning clouds. An array of oranges, pinks, and white had the sky painted like a canvass. She never needed to sleep, but she often closed her eyes and basked in the moment with him. It was their peace and tranquil moments like this that helped her to stay focused on the now. Things had been quiet...but today...she knew today would be a day she'd want to rush past. Her vampire birthday. Maybe the fact that Renesmee was now a year old--but looked as if she were turning 13--would put everyone else focused on her and not Bella. She feared Alice's gift most of all. Her own personal mall? Donna Karen's fashion line? Who knew what her sister in law slash best friend was going to do...But Renesmee's party, that would be cause to celebrate.
"Must you make out so much?" She heard a voice chime from the glass doors as she smiled against Edward's lips. Renesmee was in the my-parents-kiss-and-it's-gross stage. Giving a chuckle as she turned to look at her beautiful daughter who just a year ago was a small infant in her arms...amazing how much she'd grown. The aging had slowed down a lot. Carlisle predicted she'd age one year per year from now fourth. By 2017 she'd be mentally and physically the age of a 17 year old. A child who should only be and look five...a teenager. They would be parents to a teenager. She didn't know what scared her more...falling in love with Jacob or being a teen....or both.
"Aunt Alice called, said to meet them at the house." Edward gave a grin to their daughter. "You go on ahead, we'll catch up. I'd like to give your mother a present first." Renesmee smiled and chuckled as she turned and left them. Grinning as she looked up at Edward. "You know I hate surprises." He smiled and nodded, retrieving a envelope from his back pocket. She took it from him and sighed as she opened it to reveal three plane tickets, round trip to Florida. "Florida....wait...Edward...We can't.." He shook his head. "Yes...we can. Trust me. We'll stay out of the sun, and I've already checked the weather schedule...cloudy all week. She'll love it and so will you." She closed her eyes in thought. "But what about Renesmee..." He nodded. "She knows not to ask, remember. Only Charlie knows everything, we'll keep it that way. Trust me." Kissing her forehead she prayed he was right.
Later that night, as she sat and watched Renesmee get showered in gifts, smiling as she held on to Edward's hand she enjoyed seeing her daughter squeal with delight over the gifts. She and Edward had gotten her a piece of jewelry she'd been wanting for months and she'd said about fifteen thank you's when Alice smiled at Bella. "You want it today...or would you rather wait until your ex-human birthday. I've already saw that you'll love it." Bella gave her a grin. "Well if I love it, how about we wait until we get back from Florida." The family looked at Bella with shocked eyes. "I know...don't worry I know." She knew what they were thinking and couldn't blame them, she thought the exact same.
