*standing right where I was as his smooth voice dropped into the air. I saw such cunning calculation crossing his visage, knew the wheels in his ever devious mind were turning with rapid pace. Brothers we may be, but one thing I've never coveted....was power. Unlike Aro, who'd been born wanting what he felt this world owed him. Mortals today would say he was an egomaniac with an inferiority complex. And yet when I looked at him, and mind you, it'd been eons since the last time we were together, all I saw was a young boy who wanted to the best, who wanted all the attention for himself and who would go to any lengths to get it*
"The Cullens ARE a concern of mine, an important one. As for Alice. She is hardly common. And of great interest, I'm sure."
I stayed standing, knowing he hated that. Big brother chastising the little one, towering over him with stoic calmness he himself was famous for. "She. Is. My. Child."
*dropping each word like a well placed bullet into his neatly laid plans*

He waved his hands dismissing his insistence that it was a concern of him, just because. He took interest in something he wanted and that angered Aro to the core. All the power he possessed such a waste. Their sister had not been bestowed upon with gifts, oh but he was. A complexity at best, one he would like nothing more than to unravel and put him in his place. His words...slow and precise, each word emphasized as if they had meaning. Dismayed, he stared. His...child?. Well, he wasn't expecting that.
Standing he placed his hands together and grinned. "What a....marvelous creation, brother. Indeed fascinating she is. I should have known someone to possess something so...essential..would be from you." Truth be told, his brother wielded the powers he'd coveted ever since his transformation. That superiority he adhered to always drove him mad.
"Tell me, brother. Why is it you always show up at the most detrimental times, but seek no power."

*tilting my head down a bit, looking into the face of a person I'd once loved with so much of me. Someone who'd gone down a path I'd never chosen and sacrificed what little humanity he'd had even as a mortal*
"Because there is more to life than that. You always thought me a fool for my beliefs. I think you one for never learning YOUR place. How's that throne feel, brother? Sitting in it, I mean? Knowing that you're just a poor substitute for the very thing you always wanted to be?"
*grim smile, holding his gaze*
"Which is me."
*walking around him to look out the small sliver of crenallated window, down into the streets below*
"I know I promised to stay gone when I left. And trust me, if this didn't involve Alice, I'd still be in the shadows. But the truth is that you reign in my stead, Aro. Play pretend all you want but I know you of old. So we can do this the easy or the hard way, brother.
*half turning, assessing him*
"I want you to release the Cullens from whatever foolish promises they made and let them go back to Forks. And if you do, I'll return to the shadows and none will be the wiser. Deny me this and do as you will but prepare for the consequences. I will take MY place and the Volturri will be nothing but a memory. Are you prepared to give that up?

He followed his movements with his eyes, standing a few feet away from him. Growling low at his jab about the seat he possessed. There would be no talk about his rightful place, Aro sought power and was strong enough to be a leader. Henry was just a pushover who wanted peaceful existence with no rules to how they should live. Careless of him.
"Which is me."
"Don't flatter yourself, brother. We all know who is best for this position."
He continued to speak by the window as Aro listened. Narrowing his eyes to mere slits after he demanded the Cullens be released. The threat of taking over what he'd fought to acquire made him laugh. It had been centuries but he'd fight his brother for what was rightfully his.
"I've done quite well, and I only want to expand my guard. I'm a collector of sorts...if you will. You see, as much as we are different...we are alike." He smirked and began to slowly walk back and fourth keeping eye contact with him. "You knew, somehow...that this Alice, sweet, sweet Alice would possess some sort of power. You broke my law once, do you not remember. How foolish of you to leave a newborn in the time of guidance." He nodded, reassuring him of his question. "Yes, I've read her thoughts. She felt..." He tapped his chin and acted as if he remembered dramatically. "Tossed away like yesterdays garbage." His lips curved into a grin.

*growling low, taking a step towards him hands flexing a bit even as my own conscience screamed to keep control*
"I know of your collection brother. Tell me....all those vampires..all those gifts. And most of them residing in one person who knows you far better than any other. How does it feel to know it is THEY who have the REAL power and you are nothing more than a circus master, holding their leashes..."
*his accusations about Alice stung deep, he had no idea. Neither did she. I'd left her so she'd be safe. There had been other mitigating factors involved. Ones I wouldn't discuss with anyone but Alice herself*
"Your rules? Would those be the same ones you fail to follow when it comes down to it? Alice is perfect as she is, there was nothing I could do for then. But there is much I can do now. Care to test me, Aro? In front of witnesses? Or gave in now regarding the Cullens and I'll give you something even YOU can't foresee.

He took a quick step forward, curling a lip at his circus master jab, but hesitated. Turning his face away from his brother as he thought about his next move. He spoke of rules as Aro remained silent, taunting him to test his powers. He was smug and arrogant, so convinced of himself. He turned his head slightly glaring over his shoulder with a grin, before turning back fully around and meeting his eyes.
"Brother, Why would I want to go against someone who holds the advantage. But I assure you...you won't for long."
He pondered for a moment in silence. What could his brother possibly give him that he'd rather more than the gifted members of the Cullen family....except for maybe one thing.
"What is it you offer, brother. I am a man of deals. Even with all the power you possess I do have...things even you wouldn't see coming." He grinned as he thought of Santiago and the one other thing he held up his sleeve.

*I held his unwavering gaze with my own for several, quiet moments as I took stock of what I was about to do. But...like my wily brother, I had tricks he didn't even know about. What I was about to do, I did for Alice. For Didyme.....my poor dead sister.*
"I offer you.....myself. For one hundred years in your personal service. At your side, brother. Let the Cullens go and leave them alone. For all time. All you seek in terms of power, I can give you.I simply ask you give me a month's time with Alice....*short pause* ...and a few other conditions...
*And I proceeded to tell him what they were, watching as his eyes grew bright with all I was offering him. He thought I was giving him every single thing with no barriers, I could see it. But I wasn't as complacent as he always thought. I just hide it better...*

He held a grin, his hands clasped together giddy with anticipation. When he said the words, the very words that sealed the deal he knew he'd won. Tilting his head to the side in thought about his condition for a month with Alice and narrowing his eyes searching for deception. He could not read his brother and it annoyed him. "Very well....what other conditions do you speak of?"
He began listing off his conditions and what he'd give in return as his eyes brightened with success. A maniacal laugh escaped him and he threw his head back. "Ah hah....marvelous![/b] Brother....just marvelous. Go now...make your preparations. I look forward to our....union. I only have one revision...one hundred years....that's just too little. Until death, now that has a better ring, doesn't it?" He said with a sarcastic grin, and watched as Henry inclined his head once to comply with the condition he set. "Very well....be gone. It's almost dinner time, unless you'd like to join me...brother?"
King to knight three....
